K9 Lady

Lady is a Search and Rescue K9 that was born on July 6th. She turned 4 years old this week, and loves to celebrate with a tasty treat every year. Lady is very food motivated and works for affection from her handler, but also some of her favorite treats. She loves all kinds of food but one snack she goes nuts for is popcorn. She paces around the kitchen when she hears her humans making it and drools at the chance to eat a few tasty pieces.  Fun fact, her middle name is Liberty, since she was born so close to Independence Day. Lady was hand picked by her handler to specifically be a search a rescue dog. Compared to her other littermates she performed excellently at our screening process and bonded with her handler from day one. She adores her family and learned to live in a household with multiple cats. She enjoys any opportunity to get in the truck to go train, work at the fire station, hike, or spend a day at the beach. She loves to work hard and play hide and seek... especially since the search and rescue “victim” rewards her with treats (during training our teammates who play the victim rewards Lady with treats when she finds them).

Lady has travelled to Washington and California for trainings. She has flown for two of her out of state trainings and loves to interact with people in the airport. Most the time she seems to think she is there to pass out kisses. Lady is very loving and gives out kisses to people all the time, however she rarely stands still long enough for people to pet her back. In fact, Lady is always on the move and is excited about every moment of the day. It’s a surprise she manages to stop moving to sleep every night.

Lady has always excelled at obedience training since she gets tasty treats for listening. She more recently has also started to drastically improve her confidence while traversing some of the treacherous and challenging terrains a search and rescue dog often faces. She has worked very hard the last couple years to meet the training requirement for Idaho Task Force 1, which she successfully passed. She and her handler now have their sights set on becoming members of Washington- Task Force 1 FEMA USAR.  They recently traveled to Washington to take the Fundamental Skills Test and will be traveling again at the end of this month to take the Certification Evaluation Test. Lady and her handler make a great search team, and will do great at their test.

Happy Birthday Lady!
